About · Our Story

Why OneWalk Nigeria began

OneWalk Nigeria is a national cancer awareness and free screening movement initiated by Nextwear Technologies Limited. We work to improve access to cancer screening, promote early detection and educate communities across Nigeria — through free screening programmes, public awareness campaigns, community walks and partnerships.

Why we were established

Too many people in Nigeria learn about cancer only when it is already advanced. Fear, stigma, myths, the cost of screening and a lack of clear information keep people from talking about cancer or getting checked. OneWalk Nigeria was established to change that — to address the need for more accessible cancer screening, stronger public awareness and early detection across Nigeria.

The movement was initiated by Nextwear Technologies Limited, a medical technology company developing affordable, accessible wearable devices for early disease detection. Nextwear believes technology alone is not enough: awareness, education and community participation matter just as much.

The need for greater cancer awareness

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Nigeria, and the number of people diagnosed each year continues to rise. Many cancers are found late, when treatment is harder and outcomes are poorer. Better public awareness helps people notice changes in their bodies, understand their risks and know where to go for help.

Beyond occasional campaigns

We believe cancer awareness should go beyond occasional campaigns and walks. It should involve continuous community education, accessible screening opportunities and collaboration with healthcare institutions. That is why free cancer screening and cancer education stand alongside our community walks at the heart of everything we do.

The power of community participation

Walking together is simple, inclusive and visible. When neighbours, families, students, survivors, caregivers and health workers walk side by side, they show that no one faces cancer alone — and they start conversations that continue long after the walk ends. Our walks are one of the ways we mobilise people; screening and education are where awareness becomes action.

Our vision: a national movement

We aim to grow OneWalk Nigeria into a movement that connects communities across all 36 states and the FCT — bringing free screening campaigns, cancer education and community walks to more cities each year, each with its own local partners, united by one message: One Movement. Many Cities. Every Life Matters.

Working together

We are committed to working with government health institutions, hospitals and healthcare providers, cancer organisations, corporate partners, NGOs and communities to deliver credible, accurate and useful cancer awareness, education and screening activities.
